Happy new year! http://misstraveler.com/postcards/go-for-gold-happy-new-year/ http://misstraveler.com/postcards/go-for-gold-happy-new-year/#comments Mon, 04 Jan 2010 10:00:00 +0000 http://misstraveler.com/?p=79 Happy new year! This year was a little different because it was the first time I celebrated new year twice! Courtesy of being on the border of 2 states with different time zones, haha…

Trip to the Gold Coast was crazy partly because of the xmas and new year’s celebrations but definitely big thanks to the family who took us in as one of their own!

I’ve been coughing up my lungs since before new year’s eve, hanging out on windy beaches didn’t help :( So I’m impressed that I even managed to make this vid, my head is still jumbled up…I’m sure I’ll appreciate it once I stop coughing, sweating and shivering :p

What I didn’t get to fit into the video were the numerous times that someone would whip out a guitar (guitars…plural, all kinds, all sizes, electric, acoustic, ukelele..) and just start acoustic jam sessions. Music always playing from some room in the house. No surfing vids because bringing a camera out into the surf is more grief than it’s worth.

Anyway, enjoy ;)

It’s been a fun few days, brought around a visiting friend in Sydney.
Best to view to the video before youtube takes off the music. My fault really…I didn’t have any good ideas for songs so used a very popular one. Would like to do more vids, as I have a few more stops coming up in the next few months. Also it’s a video diary for myself, for when I age disgracefully (not a typo). I have photos and stuff that are scattered all over globe from the past few years but nothing beats the memories in your head..however the vids and pics definitely help me remember them!
Hope you enjoy.

summer crowds http://misstraveler.com/postcards/summer-crowds/ http://misstraveler.com/postcards/summer-crowds/#comments Tue, 15 Dec 2009 14:00:00 +0000 http://misstraveler.com/?p=77 Something very odd happened the moment the calender went into december. My quiet little rock pool and beach became flooded with people talking about the american football game, spanish speaking retirees who wanted to take pics in various We-are-still-so-much-in-love poses (awwwww), chinese who brought chopsticks to the beach to eat whatever they could find in the rock pool (??), golden scandinavians, drunk burnt brits in badly matching summer clothing, westies in mullets and football shorts and white australians who wanted to speak to me like this: “so..jump..here?”
Why, thank you, my english is perfectly fine. How’s yours?
Welcome to another aussie summer!
Can’t really complain though. Tis good to share with others, good karma and all that.
Heading up to the Gold Coast for xmas & new year… bring on the bogans! I mean..errr… the beach. And surf. And even crazier crowds.. haha…
Merry christmas,
Shi

60 days of summer http://misstraveler.com/postcards/60-days-of-summer/ http://misstraveler.com/postcards/60-days-of-summer/#comments Sun, 15 Nov 2009 13:00:00 +0000 http://misstraveler.com/?p=76
Hmm. Summer. I think all this sunshine, beach, warm weather and walking around in shorts has killed my ability to elucidate my thoughts in written form. So here goes. Sunny. Nice. Beach. Snorkel. Fish. Swim. Jump. Happy. Sculpture by the Sea (again). Tired.
More here.

Actually not many surf photos because I usually walk to the beach with nothing more than my house keys, swim/surf stuff…that’s it.

In the photo: IMAG_NE? I is (am) missing :)

Yes you are.. ;)

Come visit one day,

moo http://misstraveler.com/postcards/moo/ http://misstraveler.com/postcards/moo/#comments Sat, 11 Oct 2008 19:30:00 +0000 http://misstraveler.com/?p=54 Got on plane back to UK from Croatia. Spent less than 12 hours in London seeing my design in Royal Arts Academy Summer Exhibition (woo!), dinner & catching up with the latest news, laundry, packing and very little sleep.

Left apartment at 6am to get on bus to go to Bath, Wales, Lake District and York. First stop, the Avebury Standing Stones. Like Stonehenge, but 30% remaining and the other 70% constructed the local village’s gift store. Ended up in Bath, loved the Nicholas Grimshaw spa so much I went back again ( http://www.thermaebathspa.com/ )

Our guide this time was a very entertaining self-confessed ADD 20-ish year old who later suggested that those up for it could try a 40 minute climb to the tallest point in town where there were ruins of a welsh castle. After we got up the first bit, I started jogging uphill which was good because I kept on getting distracted by pretty foxglove flowers.

My route up sounded something like this:
jog jog jog ooooo pretty flower (jogging on spot), click click, jog jog jog jog ooooo pretty sheep (click click), jog jog jog, oooooo we’re really high up now,(click click) jog jog jog, ooooo woooowwww

My route down sounded like this:
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (ran downhill, it was fun)

Lake District was really beautiful, moody dramatic landscape. Fantastic. Made a stop in the welsh town with the longest name; Llan-vire-pooll-guin-gill-go-ger-u-queern-drob-ooll-llandus-ilio-gogo-goch. The translation of that name is The Church of Mary in the Hollow of the White Hazel Near the Fierce Whirlpool and the Church of Tysilio by the Red Cave. I personally like the “Fierce Whirlpool” bit. Incidentally, the next town to this one is “Holyhead”. Hmm.

I had to cut my trip 1 day short because I had to go to Glastonbury Music Festival!

It was so much fun…next email :)

:D

london and vancouver (I’m tired of making up catchy titles) http://misstraveler.com/postcards/london-vancouver-im-tired-of-making-up-catchy-titles/ http://misstraveler.com/postcards/london-vancouver-im-tired-of-making-up-catchy-titles/#comments Fri, 06 Jul 2007 19:00:00 +0000 http://misstraveler.com/?p=31

Hiya..

1 month later, here’s the list of things I’ve been up to since I got to London:

1. Experience delays to the Piccadilly line due to planned engineering works
2. See footballers’ mansions (from the outside of course)
3. Sit through 3 hours of commuting everyday for 2 weeks
4. Apartment hunting
5. Move into new apartment
6. Picnics in the park
7. Barbeques in twilight
8. Eat strawberries, blueberries & cherries
9. Drink beer
10. Play softball (actually drink beer & eat sandwiches)
11. Stay late at work
12. Get hayfever
13. Get stuck in shopping mobs on Oxford Street
14. Walk in the rain
15. Sit in the sun
16. Queue up (anywhere, everywhere! brits will queue up just like
indians will shove, and malaysians will elbow & trample)
17. See scanning scam at Oxford St Citibank ATM with ipod battery &
wireless transmitter (see pic)

Vancouver
1. Get jet-lagged london-vancouver
2. Eat very good Canadian nosh
3. Wake up fri morning & see on CNN that there has been 2 bomb scares in london
4. See Vancouver
5. Marvel at its natural beauty
6. Marvel at what people don’t get up to at night (nothing)
7. Get jet-lagged vancouver-london & can’t sleep for 3 days
8. Big pile of stuff to do when I get back

Truth is, the discovery/travelling/glamorous bits only happen for 2 (at the most) days out of many months…

but am quite happy to share those happy bits once in a while.

So from london that is apparently having the coldest & wettest summer in years (or so everyone tells me)..

cheers!
Shi.
