Compared to London, the weather and food seems to improve the moment the eurostar goes under the channel, which is rather bizarre. Or (most probably) it’s that I’m on holiday…anyway…
Arrived on the hottest day/week of the month, even the cafes had to close as it was suffocatingly hot indoors and a lot of old buildings don’t have central air-conditioning. On the 1st sunday of every month is free museum day, although I found out that not all museums do.
But I’d kind of been thinking of a bicycle ride by the Seine which is rather nice with leafy boulevards and water and beautiful churches and palaces and buildings. So I decided to rent a bicyle (Velib) and check out the museums on free sunday. Afterwards I realised several important things:
1. The musems are much further than they look on the map
2. There are loooong queues on free museum day
3. Velibs are not dirt bikes
4. Walking in the Louvre with blood trickling down your leg is not a good look.
5. If your wound continues to become more swollen the day after, it may have gone septic and you will need to go to the ER. (It got better after).
6. Cycling in the twilight evening, along the Seine is great :)
All in all, a good trip.
Back in the room while gazing wistfully at my swollen knee, I thought out loud “Well, at least when I’m old I can tell my grandkids that grandma fell off a bicycle in Paris” “Or you mean that when grandma still had a leg…” “…!!!”
:)

an update! ..and an evry travel collage http://misstraveler.com/postcards/an-update-and-an-evry-travel-collage/ http://misstraveler.com/postcards/an-update-and-an-evry-travel-collage/#comments Thu, 07 Aug 2008 20:30:00 +0000 http://misstraveler.com/?p=49 Hello everyone..

wow it’s been a while since the last email back in April. As you know, I’m not really a slacker (lazy) and to update, I actually have 20 photo collages. Stuff from france, spain, portugal, prague, budapest, portugal, croatia, thailand, wales, glastonbury music festival..

It’s been an amazing few months, yeah :) Not much sleep, a lot of walking, a lot of buses, flights, trains etc

I am now in Sydney, the end of travelling for now. A little relieved – but some lovely people have asked me to come travelling with them – yeah! I will…when I get an income.. :p New Zealand sounds great, so fingers crossed..

I have so many amazing memories everytime I look at the photos. So happy that I went out there and did it, after all you only get one life :)

So here is the first collage since the last one I sent in April. A group of people that I train with went to Evry, France for a weekend with the Yamakasi. It was a great weekend (if you like sweat and pain) but also a lot of playing. There were scaffolding set up everywhere and the whole town was behind the event 300%. There were people from France, US, England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, Italy, Finland..and a group of girls from London! I spent a little time in Paris, it was nice to be back there again.

Most fun I’ve had for a while..

:)

Bali

London

Hi yall

Latest news is that I left Dubai 1 month ago after resigning from my job (early Oct), so I won’t be back there anytime soon. It is a long
story but the only thing that matters is that I’m happier now : )

I finally managed to be all touristy in Dubai and did the dune safari, waterpark and in the months before and after leaving Dubai. Also went to Paris, London, Rotterdam & Delft before leaving Dubai and Bali after leaving. Next month I’m doing a trip to Turkey and Greece because it’s been years since I spent time with my parents and because I also enjoy unique forms of torture! ;)

So we go…

Paris: Uniquely french, beautiful bouelavards, quai-branly, cafes, parks and oh the food!
London: Fast, hurried and very very Brit-ish. Tate Modern, Blue Men Theatre, Notting Hill Festival and french food in Covent Garden. Do yourself a favour and don’t try english food unless it’s from a gastro pub.
Rotterdam: Grey nauticalism and streaks of creativity – Calatrava, Renzo Piano, Foster in one glance.
Delft: Canals, bicycles, old town squares and university life.
Dubai dune bashing: Sand, vertical 4wd, grumpy camels, camel dung, shisha and dune skiing.
Dubai Wild Wadi: Flowriders and water slides.
Bali: Surf trips are always fun. We ate extra well this trip thanks to Diah’s local knowledge of best restaurants in bali :)

That’s it for now, I’m going for dinner! Write me sometime…

:)
Shi.
